Ecological factors in land use conflicts, land administration and food insecurity in Turkana, Kenya

Ecological factors in land use conflicts, land administration and food insecurity in Turkana, Kenya

Paper Pastoral Development Network ( 33a): 23pp.

This paper employs an historical analysis to consider some of the consequences of conflicting resource use and political friction within and outside the Turkana District of Kenya. Despite huge sums of money invested, problems of food insecurity are enormous and the Turkana nomads are increasingly reliant on food aid. It is maintained that the stage for political conflicts, environmental degradation and food insecurity within the region was set decades ago.
