Ecological status of Shorea robusta in lateritic region

Ecological status of Shorea robusta in lateritic region

Indian Journal of Forestry 15(1): 38-43

The distribution of vegetation in sal (Shorea robusta) forest in the lateritic region of Midnapore, West Bengal, was studied in order to evaluate the ecological status of the area. Of the 56 tree species detected, S. robusta was the most gregarious, with IVI values ranging from 164.50 to 200.41. The ecological success of associated species was very small. The ground vegetation was very thin with 84 species dispersed over the area surveyed.
