Ecological studies on the intermediate host snails and the relevance to schistosomiasis control

Ecological studies on the intermediate host snails and the relevance to schistosomiasis control

Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz 87 Suppl 4: 249-253

On the basis of 2 previously published case studies of 2 irrigation schemes (Office du Niger in Mali and the Gezira Agricultural Scheme in the Sudan), the variability of snail distribution patterns and density fluctuations is illustrated and the association between the occurrence of human-water contacts and the presence of schistosome intermediate hosts or infections in the intermediate hosts is discussed.
