Ecological variation in representatives of Salix section Daphnella in relation to their taxonomy

Ecological variation in representatives of Salix section Daphnella in relation to their taxonomy

Vestsi Akademii Navuk Belarusi Seryya Biyalagichnykh Navuk ( 2): 3-9, 122

In a study of 12 chemical and 13 morphological characters in S. acutifolia and S. daphnoides, there were marked differences between ecotypes in practically all of the morphological traits and less marked differences in most of the chemical ones. These differences were so marked that they overlapped the interspecific ones. This was true even of qualitative characters regarded as taxonomically significant (e.g. stipule and bud shape, shoot hairiness).
