Ecological zonation and pest risk analysis



International approaches to plant pest risk analysis: Proceedings of the APHIS/NAPPO International Workshop on the Identification, Assessment, and Management of Risks due to Exotic Agricultural Pests: 113-122



Ecological zonation can be applied to analysis and prediction of the activities of plant pests in several ways. Established ecological classifications were tested as a means of improving on grasshopper forecasts in central and western Canada. A geographic information systems approach to insect pest surveillance, forecasting and control was adopted to forecast changes in the geography and severity of outbreaks.
