The life-history and ultrastructure of C. bombi are described. The average prevalence rate in Bombus pascuorum from the St. Petersburg region of Russia, was 26.4% but for worker bumble-bees it was 31.1%; prevalences were highest in July (49.5%). The parasites become attached by their front ends to epithelial folds of the narrow part of the hind gut and are rarely found in the midgut or honey bag.
