Ecology of the endangered herb Scutellaria novae-zelandiae

Ecology of the endangered herb Scutellaria novae-zelandiae

New Zealand Journal of Ecology 16(2): 127-135

Aspects of the ecology of S. novae-zealandiae (a small herb restricted to the Nelson/Marlborough region of New Zealand) were studied to assist in the management of wild populations. An absolute estimate of abundance was not possible as individual Scutellaria plants are indistinguishable and it grows in small patches up to 20 msuperscript 2. There were estimated to be between 50 and 100 such patches in podocarp-beech forest below 200 m above sea level on freely drained alluvium and colluvium.
