Economic analysis of robotic melon harvesting



Paper American Society of Agricultural Engineers ( 92-1512): 22 pp.



The cost of a robotic field crops machine was formulated to quantify the influence of cost variables. Robotic cost was compared to manual cost to determine the break-even point for robotic melon harvesting. Results of the economic studies indicate that robot melon harvesting can be economically justified for an estimated machine cost of $50,000 if more than 500 acres are harvested.
