Economic and environmental impact of nitrogen use in an irrigated area of the Guadalquivir Basin

Economic and environmental impact of nitrogen use in an irrigated area of the Guadalquivir Basin

Investigacion Agraria, Economia 7(2): 325-338

Agricultural research and extension centres have since the 1950s focused on the development and diffusion of intensive technologies to improve soil fertility and agricultural productivity. Such technologies are the main causes of current levels of surface and groundwater pollution. Water pollution is aggravated by deficient management of available technologies as well as by fertilizer and commodity prices which preclude the internationalization of negative externalities.
