One aspect of sustainable development is operationalized: if economic growth is to be compatible with environmental restrictions, then both technology and output composition must somehow be restricted to take increasing scarcity of environmental resources into account. The simplest approach for an economist to illustrate the practical implications of this is through increasing prices on environmental services.
