Economic and financial conditions surrounding the freedom to travel in the year 2000

Economic and financial conditions surrounding the freedom to travel in the year 2000

Revue de Tourisme 48(4): 42-44

Economic and financial conditions are likely to be the greatest determinants of travel in the year 2000. The freedom to travel of the individual is greater when the economy is strong and healthy, salaries are higher in real terms and more secure, and purchasing power is greater. In most industrialized countries, purchasing power and levels of savings have declined in real terms since 1980, causing a detrimental effect on expenditure on leisure and travel.
