Economic and structural development of the East German dairy industry

Deutsche Milchwirtschaft Hildesheim 44(1): 40-43

Economic and monetary union between former E. and W. Germany, on the 1 July 1990, in conjunction with EU milk marketing regulations, heralded the adaptation of the dairy industry in the former German Democratic Republic to the marketing conditions of the EU. Milk production and processing industries were faced with radical new economic and legal circumstances, which caused enormous economic and structural changes, and had painful social consequences.
