Economic aspects of mushroom growing in Sicily

Economic aspects of mushroom growing in Sicily

Tecnica Agricola 42(1): 127-151

Mushroom cultivation in Sicily dates from the early 1980s. Trends in production in Italy and Sicily are compared. National demand has risen more slowly than supply and the market is competitive. In 1986 Sicily produced 25 000 quintals, 4% of the Italian output. Cultivation techniques used in Sicily are outlined and the characteristics of Sicilian production are indicated: area, species cultivated, labour requirements.
