Economic aspects of sustainable land management: Thailand's experience

Thailand provides an interesting example of land resource use and management which could undermine the sustainability of overall development. Over the past 30 years, the drastic expansion of cultivated areas has been at the expense of forest lands which have been seriously depleted. Furthermore, the spectacular growth of the economy has resulted in an unprecedented increase in land demand for non-farming purposes.
