Economic cost of preweaning mortality: a report of the NAHMS national swine survey



Swine Health and Production 1(3): 15-21



Data from the National Animal Health Monitoring System's national pig survey in 1990 were used to estimate the number and associated opportunity costs of piglet mortalities to producers of various herd sizes and in various regions of the USA. Opportunity costs are the profit opportunities that were lost with each pig death.
