Economic effectiveness of rehabilitating the poorest forest sites

An economic analysis is made of the rehabilitation of degraded forest sites in Poland (which amount to nearly 3.8 million ha). Improvement involves planting of birch on old field sites, and Scots pine on forest sites, with intense fertilizer application and the use of shrubs and lupins to improve soil fertility.
