Economic effects of traditional and new agricultural policy instruments in Canada

Economic effects of traditional and new agricultural policy instruments in Canada

Agrarokonomische Diskussionsbeitrage Universitat Giessen ( 19): 67pp.

After a brief statistical review of the structure and importance of the Canadian agricultural sector, traditional policy aims and measures (Marketing Boards, Agricultural Stabilization Act, National Tripartite Program, grain, oilseed and milk policies) are described. The paper explains and evaluates the more recent programmes replacing or modifying the earlier ones: the Gross Revenue Insurance Plan (GRIP) and the Net Income Stabilization Account (NISA).
