Economic efficiency of milk production on state farms in lowland regions of southern Poland and Slovakia

Economic efficiency of milk production on state farms in lowland regions of southern Poland and Slovakia

Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Rolniczej w Szczecinie, Ekonomika ( 21): 3-16

Ten dairy units on state farms in southern Poland and nine in Slovakia were studied, using data for 1985-87, with particular reference to production technology, cow yields and culling rates, labour organization and productivity, costs, and overall profitability. The Slovak dairy units were generally found to have more modern production technology, including such features as carousel milking systems, and derived most fodder from forage crops, with cows fed indoors all year round.
