Economic evaluation of a solar greenhouse drier for medicinal plants compared with conventional drying

Economic evaluation of a solar greenhouse drier for medicinal plants compared with conventional drying

Trends in agricultural engineering, Prague, 15-18 September 1992 Proceedings I: 342-348

The drying costs are a fundamental problem for the production of medicinal plants. To lower the high energy costs, a solar heated drier was developed based on a plastic film greenhouse. In simultaneous drying tests, the economic feasibility of the solar greenhouse drier was assessed. A comparative analysis was made of the fixed and variable costs of the novel design versus a conventional oil heated batch drier.
