Economic evaluation of semen in a milking herd

Economic evaluation of semen in a milking herd

Research Bulletin of the Hokkaido Agricultural Experiment Station ( 158): 31-38

Using records for Holstein sires from the Nov. 1990 Japanese Dairy Sire Summary, a theoretical ranking of sires in individual dairies was developed with alternative selection policies for milk yield, milk composition, type score, CR to 1st service, survival rate, semen price, interest rate and accuracy of selection. The gross income of semen with av. estimates of milk yield, milk fat, and SNF were 88 000 yen.
