Economic impacts of removing quotas

Economic impacts of removing quotas

FO Lichts World Sugar and Sweetener Yearbook: D19-D36

The EC has become a major exporter of refined sugar over the last two decades. In recent years, the EC has accounted for about 20% of total world sugar exports, although it only produces about 14% of world supply. As world demand for sugar is very price inelastic, EC exports have a significant effect on world sugar prices. This paper examines the effects of three extreme, hypothetical EC sugar policy reforms on the EC sugar market and world prices.
