Economic importance of breeding for resistance



Durability of disease resistance: 5-9



An assessment of the importance of resistance breeding in relation to other approaches to protecting plants against disease attack concludes that resistance is preferable as a cost effective and biologically safe method of protection. The phenomenon of durability of resistance is examined. It is reported to be highly variable but there is insufficient insight into its basis.
