Economic incentives for PST adoption by Midwest hog producers

Economic incentives for PST adoption by Midwest hog producers

AFPC Policy Working Paper ( 92-12): 17pp.

This study quantifies the likely economic benefits to representative midwestern USA pig farmers who adopt porcine somatotropin (PST). Four representative pig farms, two each in Missouri and Indiana, were simulated under a non-adoption scenario, and under two feed response scenarios and three feed price scenarios with PST for the period 1992-97 using FLIPSIM (the Farm Level Income Tax and Policy Simulation Model). These results were compared to a base scenario of no PST introduction.
