Economic prospects for natural management of woodlands in the UK

Economic prospects for natural management of woodlands in the UK

Forestry Oxford 63(4): 379-390

The profitability of a wide range of management options, from intensive coniferous to more 'natural' systems, were examined. Investments were analysed using 3 measures of long-term financial viability, viz. benefit-cost ratios (BCR), land expectation values (LEV) and forest rent. Analysis by BCRs emphasized the efficiency of investment for more 'natural' management systems, and analysis by LEV favoured 'traditional' coniferous plantations.
