Economic results and some remarks on the management of alternate furrow irrigation in Ingenio Mayaguez

In field experiments at Mayaguez, Colombia, there were no significant differences in yields of the sugarcane variety MZC 74-275 between alternate and continuous furrow irrigation, but irrigation increased yield by 7.2% and N uptake by 12% over the control (no irrigation). A water economy of 25% was obtained with the alternate furrow system.
