In this discussion it is argued that the influence of plant protection treatments on yield and profitability of production depends on relations between agrophage and yield, treatment and agrophage, treatment and yield, and crop saved and the costs and feasibility of the treatment. In each of these relationships there are threshold parameters which depend on a very large number of factors.
