Effect of different soil moisture levels on catechin content in tea leaves in the Kolkhida lowlands
In trials with a local tea cultivar (unspecified) the plants were irrigated (1) via perforated clay pipes buried 40-45 cm deep or (2) they were flood irrigated for 2-7 days. Growth and leaf chemical composition were assessed immediately after treatment (23 July) and on 30 July and 13 and 20 Aug. Treatment (1) stimulated plant growth and improved leaf quality by increasing (-)epigallocatechin gallate and (-)epicatechin gallate content.
