Effect of different soil moisture regimes on migration of the protozoan species Colpoda among soil aggregates

Protozoan migration among soil aggregates was limited when the aggregates were moistened with a cell suspension consisting only of Colpoda species. Even at water contents above 50% of the water holding capacity 90% of the aggregates remained free of protozoan cells. When cells of the bacterial prey Klebsiella pneumoniae were added to the Colpoda suspensions, 93% of the aggregates contained protozoan cells.
