Effect of different sugar and starch content in diets for lambs on growth, feed utilization and slaughter quality

, : Effect of different sugar and starch content in diets for lambs on growth, feed utilization and slaughter quality. Forskningsrapport fra Statens Husdyrbrugsforsog ( 11): 16 pp.

In 2 experiments, early and late weaned lambs (purebred and crossbred) were given 4 pelleted diets with 7 to 22% sugar and 2 to 35% starch; in experiment 1 a diet containing 88% whole barley grain and 12% soyabean meal was also fed. Within breeds, lambs were slaughtered at low or high (low + 15%) weight. Varying amounts of sugar and starch in the pelleted diets had no effect on feed intake, gain and feed conversion efficiency of early or late weaned lambs.
