Two-year trials were carried out with a vigorously growing cultivar (Regina) and Orange Beauty characterized by relatively weak growth. After planting on 15 Nov., all plants received similar moderate irrigation but after the start of intensive growth (10 Mar.), the plants received 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 or 1.0 litre water/plant weekly. After 1 Apr., the weekly rates were doubled and applied in 2 split applications until the end of the growth cycle (30 July and 10 Aug.).
