Effect of diphenhydramine and promethazine on PMSG-induced ovulation in immature rats

, : Effect of diphenhydramine and promethazine on PMSG-induced ovulation in immature rats. Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences 6(2): 88-91

At 27 days of age, female rats (8-11 per group) received no treatment (controls) or were injected with 20 IU PMSG, followed by no further treatment or daily injections of 10 mg/kg of an antihistamine (diphenhydramine or promethazine) on days 27, 28 and 29. All were killed on day 30, and their ovaries were examined. Both antihistamines significantly reduced the increase in ovarian weight and blocked ovulation in PMSG-treated but had no significant effect on uterus weight.
