Effect of double muscling on dystocia, perinatal and postnatal mortality and growth of calves of Galician Blond cattle on pasture

Investigacion Agraria, Produccion y Sanidad Animales 6(1): 27-38

Data on calvings over a period of 8 yr of 92 Galician Blond heifers and 396 cows were analysed. The overall incidence of double-muscled calves was 13.7%. The incidence of dystocia was 10.7% for giving birth to normal calves vs. 46.3% for double-muscled calves, and total calf mortality was 11.6% vs. 41.8 (P<0.001).
