Effect of excessive contents of soil cadmium and zinc on the vitality of balsam poplar hybrids (Populus maximowiczii X P. trichocarpa)

, : Effect of excessive contents of soil cadmium and zinc on the vitality of balsam poplar hybrids (Populus maximowiczii X P. trichocarpa). Forstarchiv 64(1): 17-20

Pot experiments were made with P. 'NE-42' to determine the effect of high amounts of Cd and/or Zn in the soil. Data are tabulated on the contents of Cd, Cu, Zn, Pb and Fe in the roots, leaves and shoots. High amounts of Cd and Zn in the soil caused a reduction in leaf numbers and shoot lengths, intensive chlorotic and necrotic discolorations of the leaves, and deformations of the leaf margins and shoot tips.
