Effect of fat source and replacing soybean meal with plasma protein in prestarter diets on efficiency of gain and feed utilization in early-weaned pigs
In a 2 x 3 factorial design trial 252 pigs were given, from weaning at 21 to 26 days old, a complex prestarter diet with soyabean meal or plasma proteins and 8% coconut oil, soyabean oil or tallow. Experimental diets were fed for two weeks, with weekly gain and feed intake recorded. Early weaned pigs fed the complex prestarter diet containing plasma proteins had superior performance compared with pigs fed the complex prestarter diet containing soyabean meal.
