Effect of feeding chemically preserved maize fodder on growth rate, nutrient utilization and feed conversion efficiency in crossbred calves

Effect of feeding chemically preserved maize fodder on growth rate, nutrient utilization and feed conversion efficiency in crossbred calves

Indian Journal of Dairy Science 46(6): 253-257

For 120 days 18 male crossbred cattle, 5-8 months old and 111 kg average body weight, were given diets of concentrate 1.5 kg/day plus untreated maize silage (control) or maize forage treated with 0.5% urea + 1% salt (group 1) or 0.25% urea + 0.5% salt (group 2). Chemical treatment restricted microbial fermentation with a resultant decrease in lactic acid, total volatile fatty acids and acetic, propionic and butyric acids.
