Abstract
Groups of 5 weaned Marwari goats were given ad libitum diets comprising concentrate:roughage ratios 50:50, 35:65 and 20:80 for 20 weeks. All goats were given lucerne hay 100 g/day. DM intake per kg liveweight was 695.24, 756.84 and 497.49 g, per 100 kg body weight was 3.66, 3.77 and 3.045 kg and per kg metabolic liveweight was 76.52, 99.72 and 61.21 g, respectively. Feed efficiency per kg liveweight gain was 8.65, 11.56 and 12.55 kg DM intake and Rs 18.27, 16.37 and 16.62, respectively. DM digestibility was 66.68, 67.1 and 57.62%, digestibility of crude protein was 84.08, 85.86 and 70.63%, digestible crude protein intake was 132.41, 114.69 and 47.69 g/day and total digestible nutrients intake was 503.57, 573.18 and 325.32 g/day. Diet with 35% concentrate and 65% roughage was the cheapest.
