The influence of feeding intensity (amount of feed per fish per unit time) on feed intake, growth rate and size variation in groups of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, under realistic rearing conditions was studied. Feeding intensity influenced the pattern of feed intake, but daily feed intake, growth rate and size variation were negligibly affected, whether fish were fed to satiation or were kept on restricted diets. Feed intake in a meal varied considerably.
