A. gayanus CIAT 621, grown in Matanzas province, Cuba without irrigation, received 50 kg each of N, P2O5 and K2O/ha, either singly or as NP, NK, PK, or NPK. P was applied at sowing and the other elements 70 d later. At the first cut, 11 months after sowing, the highest herbage yields were about 2.8 t DM/ha for P, K and PK treatments, compared with about 2 t DM/ha from the unfertilized control. No significant differences were recorded for ground cover, weed invasion or plant height.
