Wheat Buck Pucara (moderate grain protein content) and Buck Cencerro (high grain protein content) grown at La Plata were sprayed with 20 kg N/ha as urea at anthesis or 7 or 14 d after anthesis. N did not affect the rate or duration of grain DM accumulation or final grain weight. Applied N increased grain N concentration at maturity, particularly in Buck Pucara. Higher N concentration was associated with rapid uptake of the sprayed N rather than to an increased N accumulation period.
