Effect of heptachlor, MNNG and thioacetamide on the growth of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, strain HD-1 (Kurstaki) and its toxicity to dipterous fly Zaprionus indiana
The effect of treating Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki with the insecticide heptachlor, the weak carcinogen thioacetamide (TAA) and the strong mutagen MNNG on its toxicity to larvae of Zaprionus indiana was investigated. Untreated spores of B. thuringiensis or spores treated with heptachlor did not produce any mortality in the flies. Treatment with TAA and MNNG reduced the copy number of plasmid DNA of the bacterium.
