Effect of humidity on artificial insemination of queen honey bees

Effect of humidity on artificial insemination of queen honey bees

American Bee Journal 132(12): 801-802

Before and after instrumental insemination of Apis mellifera capensis queens with 4 micro l semen, each queen was kept with about 200 workers at 34 degrees C and an RH (%) of 35, 45, 65 or 85. Two days after insemination, spermathecal content was determined. Migration of spermatozoa into the spermatheca was negatively correlated with RH.
