Effect of increasing doses of fertilizers on the accumulation of nitrates and fluorine in the green matter of maize

In a field trial on dark chestnut soil in Kazakhstan in 1988, maize was given factorial combinations of 0-300 or 450 kg each of N, P2O5 and K2O/ha. Accumulation of nitrate in the green matter depended directly on N rate and was not affected by K rate; the effect of P changed during the growing season. Accumulation of water-soluble fluorides depended on the rate of P fertilizer, which contained traces of F, and increased with time.
