The varieties Jago and MAH383 were compared during 1986-88 in a field experiment on light and heavy soils under 4 N regimes and 2 growth regulator regimes (3 litres Bercema CCC ha and 2 litres Bercema CCC + Terpal C ha). On light soil, where no lodging occurred, the growth regulators had little effect on grain yield, and the varieties differed in response, with MAH383 showing no reaction, while Jago showed a yield increase of 2.4 and 2.7 dt/ha under the respective regimes. The varieties differed also in response to N dose, with Jago showing an increase in yield with increasing doses up to 100 kg/ha and MAH383 an increase in yield up to the maximum dose of 150 kg/ha. The increase in yield was somewhat higher in MAH383 than in Jago.
