The mother plants, growing in a chamber under artificial light (5000 or 10 000 lx) in 3-litre pots, received NH4NO3 at 100, 500 or 1000 mg N/pot, plus PK and trace element basal dressing. The mother plants were grown in a 1:1 peat:sand mixture and the cuttings they produced were rooted in water under 5000 lx. The effect of N on mother plant productivity was dependent on light intensity.
