Effect of planting density in Brussels sprouts on seed yield

In 4-year trials with the cultivar Maczuga, the plants were spaced at 60 x 20, 60 x 30, 60 x 40 or 60 x 50 cm. In the autumn (late Oct.-early Nov.), the plants were earthed up and evaluated for survival in the spring. The seeds were harvested in late Aug. Spacing had no effect on plant overwintering but it had a marked effect on average seed yield which was highest (509.9 kg/ha) at 60 x 20 cm, and lowest (432.4 kg/ha) at 60 x 50 cm.
