Effect of substrate and of fungicide treatment on the germination and fungal infection of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) seeds

Cotton IAC-20 seeds, treated or not with the fungicide thiabendazole at 400 g/100 kg seeds, were sown on germitest paper, newspaper or cloth as substrate in the laboratory at 25 degrees C; and on sand, soil or a mixture of soil, sand and OM in a greenhouse at 25.3 degrees C. In a 3rd trial, the presence of fungi on seeds was assessed and the effect of thiabendazole at 400 g and captan at 500 g/100 kg seeds was determined. There was a high incidence of fungi on seeds.
