Effect of the degree of hydromorphism on the composition of organic matter in neoformations of sod-podzolic soils

Data are presented on the humus composition of dernopodzolic soils in western Moscow Province, Russia. The humus content was greater in cutans and ortsteins of illuvial horizons than in the horizon in which these occur, regardless of the degree of gleying. The composition of humus remained unchanged in B1 horizon cutans and in ortsteins as gleying increased (humic acid:fulvic acid ratio of 0.3).
