In field trials at Cumra, Turkey, in 1988-90, maize hybrid TTM-813 was grown at densities of 3125, 3570, 4160, 5000, 5710 or 6660 plants/ha and was given 0, 70, 110, 150, 190 or 230 kg N/ha. Grain yields were highest with a density of 6660 plants/ha (10.9 t/ha) and 230 kg N (11.8 t). Increasing plant density decreased grain CP content, grain number and weight per ear and 1000-grain weight, but increased ear number per plot. Plant density did not affect morphological characters.
