Previous studies have shown that EDS selectively kills Leydig cells and depresses testosterone production in adult rats, but that immature rat Leydig cells are less sensitive to EDS. There is also evidence that rabbits metabolize EDS to methane sulphonic acid more rapidly than rats. In the present study, EDS significantly reduced serum and interstitial testosterone levels in adult rabbits.
