Pigs, average initial liveweight 54 kg, in 4 groups were fed on a basal diet containing 72.9% yellow maize, 12.8% soyabean meal, 6% wheat bran and 4.5% wheat middlings plus chromium picolinate 0, 200, 400 or 800 mg/kg. Average daily body weight gain was 760, 800, 700 and 670 g, respectively; feed:gain ratio 3.14, 3.15, 3.46 and 3.22; and average backfat thickness 2.50, 2.09, 1.85 and 1.69 cm.
